Pollinators

Pollinators such as bees, butterflies and moths are hugely important, responsible for the production of crops such as strawberries, apples and cherries – overall it is thought that 84% of crops grown in Europe rely on insects. Despite being so important, pollinators are in decline, as a result of a huge combination of problems such as loss of habitat, pesticide use and extreme weather.

In 2019 we received a grant from the Tanyptera Trust to buy a moth trap to help progress our research on the moths found around Knowsley. We are targeting woodlands to try and help clarify the status of the nationally rare species, cloaked pug (Eupithecia abietaria).
