About Roan Antelope

The roan is the fourth largest species of antelope, with the males weighing up to 300kg (661lb).

They have distinctive black and white clown-like masks which shows darker in the males than females. Both sexes have backward-curving horns.

Both male and female roan have backwards curving horns!

Roan antelope are grazers and browsers, meaning they'll eat both grass and leaves.

Roan antelope are from the forest, savanna, grassland and shrubland across parts of central and southern Africa.

Roan antelope are classed as least concern in the wild. Their biggest threat is from commercial development of their habitat.
